I recently discovered this nifty site that offers a decent introduction to Vancouver. I emailed the site owner, and she replied that she built it “for the countless Americans asking on Craigslist what’s happening in Vancouver, how to move here and immigrate here”. If you’re one of those countless Americans, this is as good a place as any to start.
This page alone–a guide to Vancouver neighbourhoods–is a really valuable resource. I was recently contacted by an American technologist-type who was interested in moving to Vancouver. I answered a few tax-related questions for him, and then he started asking about what neighbourhoods to live in. That’s a tricky question to answer, as everyone has their own preferences and biases. For example, I think Kerrisdale is full of old people. The VUG reports that its residents are ‘affluent families, professionals and retirees’. That sounds about right.
