Getting My Groove On

We learn via Lockergnome that Groove Networks, who have been around for a few years, have launched a Virtual Office product that looks pretty nifty. Basically, it enables remote file sharing, project management and various other features that connect employees in different offices.

The project management aspect appeals to me, as we’ve got employees and contractors in several locations, and an increasing number of projects to keep track of. Unfortunately, several of them are running Macs and Groove is only available for Windows. The Groove FAQ addresses this issue by encouraging Mac users to run Virtual PC or use a browser-based alternative. Neither of these are particularly appealing to me, so I guess I’ll have to just wait for Mac support.

  1. We are piloting Groove for some very similar applications. I’ll let you know how it goes. so far it’s pretty cool.

  2. One of my co-workers uses groove heavily for his outsourced accounting business.

The project management is a bit weak, unfortunately. While it can do basic gantt charting, there’s no way to do something like Outlook Tasks with it and control the delegation and display well.

I’m considering writing a database for it, but then it won’t integrate with their PM stuff. GRRR.
