I’m Officially the Hub of All Things Alan

Last week, I wrote about an unusual political spam I received from an Edmontonian named Alan. At the time, I Googled him but found very little information. As this viral spam has spread into inboxes across the country, others have followed. Thanks to the voodoo that is search engine prioritization, they inevitably find my posting on the subject. Irate Canadians have been leaving comments for the past week, mostly debunking Alan’s points. One stupid person actually thought I was Alan, which takes demonstrates an admirable ignorance of the obvious.

This highlights the power of uniqueness on the Internet. Because I mentioned something that barely exists elsewhere on the Web, people come to this site. I have intentionally not included Alan’s last name in this post, so as to not confuse people searching for it.

UPDATE: Russell comments in the aforementioned thread and refers to a discussion at Digital Copyright Canada about the likelihood that this political spam is commercial in origin.
