Last night, I watched George F. Walker’s Problem Child at Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver. My friend Matthew Bissett is in the show, and is excellent as the drunken hotelier. He explained after the show that his success comes from ‘acting from the stomach’. The rest of the cast ain’t bad either. It’s technically very sound, with a quality lighting and sound design.
More importantly, it’s a very fine, darkly-comic script. Walker is my favourite Canadian playwright, and this is vintage work. The play’s pace never falters, and his work always has a very contemporary, cinematic quality to it. Also, it’s funny as hell. Walker’s quite prolific, and he’s currently writing for This is Wonderland (starring the very cute Cara Pifko) on the CBC.
