I’ve got no idea how I found this one, but here’s the fine website of the National Dodgeball Association. I figured it was just another nutty, fringe sport site (remember speed stacks?). Then, while watching the admirably dreadful The Day After Tomorrow (global warming apparently takes a couple of days), I watched a trailer for the new Ben Stiller vehicle, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.
It seems improbable that I’d coincidentally encounter this Dodgeball site a mere two weeks before the opening of the film on June 18th. The site looks legitimately mediocre, and was apparently build in FrontPage 4.0. Furthermore, there’s an actual phone number on the home page. I called it and there’s a generic answering machine at the other end. The site’s URL was registered to a Marsh, Jack in Winter Park, Florida in October, 2002, and the pages were last modified in August, 2003.
Hmm…all of the evidence suggests that this isn’t a sneaky, grassroots promotional campaign, but just a goofy site about dodgeball. Regardless, be sure to check out the photo gallery. In particular, there’s an example of how not to block the ball.
Yep the NADA is in fact a real organization…we’re currently trying to form the Canadian version over at http://www.dodgeball.ca
