Mobile Phone Saves Man’s Life

Ain’t South Africa grand? From that ubiquitous weblog, Gizmodo:

André Steyn is a lucky man with a good attitude. While driving his truck near Johannesburg, South Africa, Steyn was attacked by hijackers who took a pot shot at him in an attempt to, you know, blow his brains out. Fortunately for him, he was talking on his Nokia handset, which didn’t save his hand but managed to catch the bullet that would have otherwise ended up in his brain. Steyn swerved, ran the attacker off the road, and now jokingly adds that future anonymous hijackers should watch out: his new phone has a camera.

Charming. And an argument against the hands-free car system. Perhaps they should start selling cellular phones in South Africa with a large lead shield attached to them, and a molded kevlar glove for your hand.
