Meg writes to point out that our former Prime Minister’s progeny agrees with me on the whole signage issue. He even comes up with a good solution for the post-election mess they leave:
You want a new deal for Canadian cities? Try this on for size: Political parties could be fined every day following an election that a sign is found of public property. There could be 100 signs or just one after an election, those signs are trespassing. Follow that up with fines on private property as well. Call it a zoning infraction and the urban landscape would be purified by dawn the day after the election.
I don’t know about the private property side of things, but I’m behind him 100% on public property. Of course, I don’t know why we need the silly things at all.
