Apparently a passenger on Israel’s national airline, El Al, was surprised to find a pistol in his luggage:
Security officers sometimes put replica guns in luggage to keep bag checkers on their toes, Haaretz says. In theory, the weapon would be discovered during checks and removed, leaving passengers none the wiser. This handgun, however, appears to have slipped through the net.
Should I be more worried that they do this sort of thing, or that they missed the gun?
If I had to submit to security checks that are meaningful and effective El Al wold be a good place to start. El Al has had “air marshalls” since they started up business.
Also, El Al is one of the only major airlines not to have had a hi-jacking / bombing.
I’d be rather skeptical about a security system that didn’t have constant testing. I’d be more worried about it slipping through than them testing it.
Airline security in North America is a joke. The guy who snuck things onto planes in the US should be given a medal of honor not arrested.
Money upgrading security in US Ports of Entry:
$46 million.
Cost of an untested ICBM defense system:
$10000 million.
Knowing Tom Brokaw is capable of importing Uranium into the United States by not declaring it on the bill of lading:
priceless.
