Wackiest Sports Stats of the Week

In ESPN’s
fan satisfaction rankings
, the Canucks franchise finished 20th out of 121
franchises in the four major leagues, and ranked 6th among NHL teams.

Interesting notes include the fact that the Canucks ownership were ranked 5th
in the NHL for ‘honesty, loyalty to players and city’ and 4th for fan relations.
As every Vancouverite thinks they can do a better job than current GM Brian
Burke, this result surprised me. I was also surprised how how poorly the Canucks
did on affordability. I don’t have much perspective on ticket prices throughout
the league, but I thought Vancouver’s were pretty average.

Though they explain the
survey’s methodology
, it still seems kind of dubious. It says more about
the fans in individual cities than the league(s) as a whole. For example, the
Wild are ranked 6th in the NHL (after, which seem quite fair, New Jersey, Detroit,
Colorado, Dallas and Montreal) for ‘titles already won or expected — soon’.
Either Minnesota fans have delusions of grandeur or low expectations.

Worst team in all of sports this year? The Chicago Blackhawks.
