Jill in a Box

Pamela Masik is a Vancouver-based artist who, for the past four days, has been living in an eight foot box. She’s got it rigged up with a toilet and bed, and the lights turn on and off at random intervals. She doesn’t have any communication with the outside world, and paints on the walls. You can read more about it on her site, or watch her live here. I’ve been checking back on her the past few minutes, and she’s sleeping. With the lights on.

  1. About this…. I saw a pic in the paper that showed her in a 3 by 3 foot box naked and then proceded to discuss how she would live in an 8 by 8 box….very deceptive I thought. Next, how blooming difficult is it to live in a box that is 8 by 8 feet? for only five days (and has a bed). As far as I am concerned right now that sounds like luxury. She has food and can get a change of scenery by moving into the bathroom. Bathroom? Who lives in a box and attaches a bathroom? – that’s an apartment.
Also by living in box she avoids all the crap we have to deal with everyday and doesn’t have to go to work. where do I sign up?

  2. This so called “descendent of famed british painter John Constable” is such an egomaniac…have you ever read her journal? I’m oddly drawn to it like a bad car accident. The living in the box event was such a poorly constructed publicity stunt as all her show’s seem to be. Pamela let your art speak for itself not your contrived sultry looks or badly construed marketing abilities.
